ah yes - again the incorrect reading of the problem. We wanted four letter arrangements are there for the word Mattawa.

Hmmm. Things get complicated.
There is only one combination of unique letters: matw. They may be arranged in 4! = 24 ways.

The combinations of 3 unique letters are:

aamt
aamw
aatw
ttam
ttaw
ttmw
Each of them may be arranged in 4!/2! = 12 ways, giving 72 more 4-letter arrangements.

The combinations with 2 pairs are
aatt There are 4!/2!2! = 6 more arrangements there.

The combinations with a triplet are
ttta
tttm
tttw
Giving us 4!/3! = 4 * 3 = 12 more.

So, the total number of 4-letter arrangements is

24+72+6+12 = 114

Look ok, Damon?
Ah, yes, thanks !
Lol, I thought Jiskha would have a private phone line or something
