People are mammals, which have internal body heat regulation. They maintain roughly the same temperature regardless of environment.
Reptiles and other cold-blooded animals cannot do this, and their internal temperature is much more greatly affected by their surroundings. They get sluggish in the cold, and are more active in warm weather.
