Solve this quadratic equation

x^2 + 5x + 3 = 0

one way is to complete the square:

x^2 + 5x + 3 = 0
x^2 + 5x = -3
x^2 + 5/x + (5/2)^2 = -3 + (5/2)^2
(x + 5/2)^2 = 13/4
x + 5/2 = ±√13/2
x = (-5±√13)/2

You get the same answer using the quadratic formula.
