solve by the substitution method.

5x + 7y= -19
x=4-4y

what is the solution of the system?

3 answers

Put x=4-4y in the first equation to get
5(4-4y) + 7y = -19
20 - 20y + 7y = -19
-13y = -39
y=3
Now you can substitute y = 3 in the second equation to get the value of x.
so for x = 5 that's the answer i got.
Try again with
x
=4-4y
=4-4(3)
=4-12
=-8
