"Hetero" means different, so "Heterozygous" refers to a genotype that has different alleles (one dominant and one recessive). This is why individuals who are heterozygous carry the recessive gene; it is present in their genotype but is not expressed because the dominant allele masks its effects.
So they are both heterozygous for tasting PTC. Sometimes this is called, "Carrying the recessive gene."
"Hetero" means ________, so remember that "Heterozygous" would mean that the genotype has different alleles (1 dominant and 1 recessive)-- this is why they "carry" the recessive gene (it's there, but the dominant will cover it up)
