So, I've written down
22x+70=17x-95
and I think you would add together 22 and 17, to get 39x right? and then you would subtract 70 from the -95 and get that number and solve, correct?

Yes that is correct, you have to make sure you get the terms with x on one side and the numbers on the other side, so that is called collecing like terms. Like meaning same.
