It depends on which career path you are looking at and which form of retail.
Entry level jobs in supermarket retailing are jobs such as shelf fillers or perhaps the guys that recover the trollies from the car park. The next level up are the checkout staff, followed by the check staff supervisor (or 'captain' in some firms). There is then then management career path which starts trainee managers, which supervise and run one area of the store such as fresh produce or an aspect of non-food, e.g. stationary.
The support jobs such as cleaners and admin staff would not normally be considered as retailing jobs.
Does this help?
So, for my retailing project I'm supposed to write an essay about an entry level job I'm interested in.
My mind is totally blank, what are some examples of an entry level job in retailing? Is it a higher up job such as administration, or smaller like a manager?

I agree with Dr Russ. Other entry level jobs include flipping burgers at McDonald's, cashier in a retail store, and cast member at Disney World. When my daughter-in-law worked at McDonald's in high school and college, she was told she could rise as high as she wanted, depending upon her experience and education.
