Do you mean
[ f(x)-f(a)] / [x-a ] ? That would be the slope
[ 18 x^3 - 18 a^3 ] / (x-a)
= 18 [ x^3-a^3 ] / (x-a) = 18 (x^2 + x a + a^2)
