Gettysburg was a huge battle that took place in July 1863 in Pennsylvania. It was a turning point in the war because the Union Army won, stopping the Confederate Army from invading the North. This battle had the most casualties of any battle in the war, with over 50,000 soldiers killed, wounded, or missing.

At Appomattox Court House in April 1865, General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant, ending the Civil War. This was a big deal because it meant that the Confederate Army was defeated and the Union was victorious. This surrender led to the reunification of the United States after years of fighting and division.
