Read the statement below.

Anna thinks that her appearance should not determine how well she fits in at school.

Which of the following sentences supports this statement?

Fitting In

For the third time in a year, Anna found herself starting at a new school. Her mother was in the military, and they moved around a lot. Moving three times in one year is ridiculous, though, Anna thought, as she got out of her mom's car in front of the school. Anna never knew how hard she should try to fit in and make friends. She could be at the school for a month, or she could be at the school for a year. Let's hope I fit in without having to try so hard, Anna thought as she walked through the front entrance. That would make things easy.
Anna had arrived at school late, so the guidance counselor walked Anna to her first class. Anna was glad the English teacher didn't make her introduce herself in front of everyone. She hated that. Instead, she kept her head down and took the first available seat. Before the bell rang to signal that English class was over, a note made its way to Anna’s desk. "You must sit with us at lunch. We'll find you!" the note read. Anna looked behind her as the bell rang, but no one even made eye contact with her. She had no way to know who had passed her this note.
Anna made her way through the rest of the morning without talking to anyone. She had hardly looked at anyone, either. Anna was quite shy and did not want to cause trouble. Of course, who knows what kind of trouble this note could lead to, Anna nervously thought. She walked into the cafeteria and stood in the lunch line. I really won't mind if no one comes up to me, she thought. I can get a sandwich and go eat in a corner of the library while I read my book.
"You!" a girl said, grabbing Anna out of the line and away from her thoughts. "Come and sit!" A pretty girl with long black hair pulled Anna to a table with about 10 girls. They all had long hair and wore plaid shirts. "You seem nice," said the girl. "My name is Anna. We love your long hair. Since being new is hard, let us make it easy for you. You can hang out with us at school and on weekends, but you have to follow our rules."
"Rules?" Anna asked.
"Yes!" said the other Anna excitedly. "We make sure we match in some way every day. We don't all have to wear the same shirt or dress, but our clothes let everyone know that we're all together."
"I see," said Anna.
"So!" the other Anna continued. "Lunch with us today. Tomorrow, wear a floral dress, and you'll totally be part of our group!" The other Anna and the rest of the girls went back to the conversation they were having before Anna had been pulled to the table. No one has even asked me for my name, Anna thought. It's like I'm not even here. Anna got up, bought a sandwich, and went to the library. None of the girls seemed to notice.
The next day, Anna didn't wear a floral dress. She wore green shorts with a plain white shirt. The other Anna passed her in the hall and frowned. Anna just smiled. She had met a nice girl named Emily in the library yesterday who liked to talk about books. Anna thought she was fitting in at her new school just fine.

The Failed Hike

It was the first weekend of the summer vacation, and Ezra, Aaron, Matt, and Riley decided to go hiking in the mountains outside of their town. Aaron had just received his driver's license, and he drove all of them to the edge of the mountains.
It was early in the morning when they began their hike. Ezra led the pack, and every once in a while, he checked the map to see if they were going in the right direction. Soon, it began to get hot and humid, and everyone took out their water bottles.
"Ezra, it was smart of you to suggest we carry energy drinks instead of plain water," Riley said. "It works way better here for the hike and the heat."
Everyone agreed with Riley, and Ezra smiled at his friends. Suddenly, the sky began to turn cloudy, and before they knew it, it began to rain heavily. They had no cover because the trees surrounding them were not dense enough to shield them from the rain. Before Ezra could fold the map and put it back in his bag, the map got soaked in the rain and tore to pieces. Everyone panicked when they saw their destroyed map, but Ezra asked them to calm down.
"Matt, can you give me the compass I'd asked you to carry?" Ezra said, as the rain finally stopped. "We may not have the map, but we can use the compass to find our way back."
Matt's face turned white as he dug through his bag looking for the compass. His friends looked at him angrily because they knew exactly what Matt had done, or rather not done.
"You didn't carry the compass!" Riley yelled. "This is the millionth time you've not remembered to bring something you were responsible for."
"I'm sorry. I thought I had put it in my bag, but I guess I left it back home," Matt said, as he looked apologetically at his friends.
"Never mind, it's best if we return because it isn't safe to move ahead without a map. Let's retrace our steps carefully so that we safely reach our car below," Ezra suggested.
Everyone agreed, and they began to climb down the mountain.

adapted from The Bird on Its Journey
by Beatrice Harraden

As the sun painted the sky red and was slowly retiring for the day, several guests were having tea in a café in District 9 in Switzerland. The streets looked white as a sheep's fleece, and very few people could be seen walking on the street with heavy coats. Suddenly, a young woman rushed into the café and drew a chair up to the fire.
An elderly lady, who was herself trying to get warm, told the young woman to put on some other clothes as she looked soaking wet. The lady continued, "You ought to lose no time in changing your clothes."
The young woman replied that she did not have any spare clothes to change into and said that she would soon be dry.
"Have you lost all your luggage?" asked the lady, looking around the woman and noticing she was empty-handed.
The woman said that she did not have any luggage to lose, but she had a knapsack, but it didn't have any clothes in it. She smiled a little mischievously and added, considerately, "I have walked a long distance—in fact, from District 10."
"And where did you leave your companions?" asked the lady, with a touch of concern in her voice.
The young woman replied that she is without companions, just as she is without luggage, and then she opened the piano that was lying next to the fireplace and struck a few notes. There was something soothing in the way in which she touched the keys. Whoever she was, she knew how to make sweet music, and sad music too, full of undefinable longing for someone.
The lady bending over the fire looked up at the young woman and hesitated for one moment. She then took her childish-looking face between her hands, kissed her cheek, and thanked her for playing music.
"The piano is terribly out of tune," said the young woman, and she ran out of the room and came back carrying her knapsack.
"What are you going to do?" asked her the lady.
"I am going to tune the piano," the young woman said, and she took a tuning hammer out of her knapsack and began her work earnestly. She evidently knew what she was doing and pegged away at the notes as though her whole life depended upon it.
The lady by the fire was lost in amazement and started thinking who this woman could be—without luggage, without friends, and with a tuning hammer!
