17 Findings/Results
The research findings on workload and stress management at Manyana Primary School indicate several important points. Firstly, teachers reported high levels of stress related to their workload. Most teachers stated that they often felt overwhelmed by the number of classes and administrative tasks they had to manage. Surveys showed that 75% of teachers felt that they did not have enough time to prepare their lessons effectively.
Students also expressed feelings of stress, particularly during exam periods. About 60% of students mentioned that they felt anxious about their school assignments and tests. Many students stated they struggled to balance schoolwork with their personal lives, which added to their stress.
Furthermore, the study found that current stress management resources, such as counseling services, were underutilized. Only 30% of teachers and 25% of students reported using these resources, indicating a need for better awareness and access to stress management programs.
18 Discussion
The findings from this study suggest that excessive workload is a significant source of stress for both teachers and students at Manyana Primary School. It is clear that the current workload is unsustainable, which can negatively impact the overall learning environment. The high levels of stress reported by teachers can lead to burnout, while student anxiety may hinder academic performance and well-being.
Based on these findings, it is recommended that the school administration review and possibly reduce the workload for teachers to ensure they can manage their tasks without becoming overwhelmed. This could involve hiring additional staff or reducing administrative duties. Implementing regular workshops on stress management for both teachers and students could also provide beneficial coping strategies.
Additionally, it is essential for the school to promote awareness of the existing counseling services, ensuring that teachers and students feel comfortable and encouraged to seek help when needed. Future research could explore the impact of specific stress reduction programs and how changes in workload affect teaching quality and student outcomes.
