Scientific Notation question...

It says put it in scientific notation and here is the question.

3100.0 x 10^2

But it's already in scientific notation... and I have no clue what to do... I've never done a question in scientific notation before... can someone please help me?

I suppose you could change it to 31*10^4; it's all I can think to do here.
