At the same time, ethical standards that are expected of professional teachers include maintaining confidentiality, avoiding conflicts of interest, being fair and impartial, respecting student diversity, avoiding discrimination, and maintaining appropriate boundaries.

As a student and observer in the classroom, I have witnessed a number of examples of both ethical and unprofessional behavior. For instance, I have seen teachers who have gone above and beyond their duties to help their students excel, such as staying after class to help struggling students with their assignments. Conversely, I have seen teachers who have displayed poor judgment, such as losing their temper with a student or using derogatory language.

It is important for teachers to uphold ethical and professional behavior in the classroom because it creates a safe and nurturing environment for students to learn and grow.
