Reflect on the Portfolio

Read over your finished writing product and think about these questions. Write your reflections in your journal.

1. How useful was the organizational plan you created in helping you with the writing process? How closely did you follow your plan? Would your essay have been more effective if you followed your plan more closely, or did your final organization make more sense?

2. How effective do you think your text was in achieving its purpose? Do you think your text is written in a way that appeals to your audience?

3. Did you include all the information you wanted? Was there anything additional that you wish you had included?

4. How heavily did you revise your text in the revising and editing process? In what ways did your changes improve your text?

Reflections on the Portfolio

  1. Utility of the Organizational Plan: The organizational plan I created proved to be quite useful in guiding my writing. It served as a roadmap, helping me structure my ideas and ensuring that I had a cohesive flow throughout the essay. While I followed my plan closely in the initial stages, I found myself deviating slightly as I wrote, especially when new ideas emerged. Ultimately, I think this flexibility enhanced my final piece, as it allowed me to adapt my thesis and arguments based on the writing process rather than rigidly sticking to my original outline. However, I do wonder if a tighter adherence to my plan might have provided more clarity in certain sections.

  2. Effectiveness of the Text: I feel that my text was fairly effective in achieving its purpose, which was to engage and inform my audience. I aimed to strike a balance between informative content and compelling narrative, and I believe I succeeded in making the material relatable. Feedback from peers indicated that my tone resonated well with the intended audience, which encourages me that I was successful in meeting my goal. However, there may still be moments where I could enhance audience engagement through more vivid examples or anecdotes.

  3. Completeness of Information: I included most of the information I set out to cover, but upon reflection, I realize that some aspects could have been elaborated further, particularly examples to illustrate my key points. I wish I had included more statistical data or case studies to substantiate my claims, as I think this could have added depth to my argument and increased its persuasive power.

  4. Revisions and Improvements: The revising and editing process was quite extensive for me. I revisited my text multiple times, focusing on clarity and coherence. Early drafts had many awkward phrases and unclear transitions, which I worked hard to refine. I also made a concerted effort to tighten up my sentences, reducing unnecessary wordiness. The changes not only improved the readability of the text but also strengthened my argument. Overall, I believe these revisions transformed my initial draft into a more polished and effective final product.
