A sample of Drosophila is separated into two halves. One half is placed in a container with a starch food source. The other half of the sample is placed in a container with a maltose food source. After many generations of Drosophila are produced, the two halves of the sample are put together. The Drosophila prefer to mate only with other Drosophila had the same food source (starch with starch, maltose with maltose).
