An 8.61-kg block slides with an initial speed of 1.72 m/s down a ramp inclined at an angle of 27.4° with the horizontal. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the ramp is 0.73. Use energy conservation to find the distance the block slides before coming to rest.

1 answer

ΔKE+ΔPE=W(fr)
m•v²/2+m•g•s•sinα = μ•m•g•s•cosα
s=v²/2g(μ•cosα- sinα) = 1.72²/2•9.8(0.73•cos27.4 –sin27.4)=0.8 m
