Potato Chips

It is widely believed that potato chips were invented by George Crum in 1853. Crum was a cook at a restaurant in Saratoga Springs, NY. One day, a customer sent his order of fried potatoes back to the kitchen. The man wanted the potatoes sliced thinner. Crum made thinner slices, but the man still wasn’t happy. Crum decided to cut slices so thin that they would become hard and crunchy when he fried them. This would make them impossible to eat with a fork. To Crum’s surprise, the man loved his crunchy snack. Other diners even ordered their own. Chips were added to the menu, and a new snack was born.
