Deductivity (or validness if that what you still want to call it) means that given some premises the conclusion must hold true. Soundess means that all the components involved are actually true. One can have a deduction (or be valid) without being sound. One can have something that is sound without having a deduction (or being valid).
For that third declarative statement, the sentence should have read one can *not* have . . . Oops! My bad!
The vacuum salesman’s argument was, “Anyone who wants a comfortable, clean home needs this amazing vacuum cleaner. You certainly look like someone who likes having a really clean home. So, you definitely need this vacuum cleaner!” The salesman did have a valid argument. But what if the man that he is trying o sell to does not like having a clean home? What if it isn’t even him that is responsible for cleaning the home, the salesman doesn’t’ know that. The salesman’s argument’s conclusion can only be true if the premises of the argument are true.

I think the wife makes the sound argument. It’s sound or valid because everything she states is true. It all makes sense from a logical point of view. The premise of the wife’s argument was the fact that the carpet was already clean and that the vacuum they currently have is in good working condition. Why would you replace something that is in good working condition? There is nothing wrong with it.

In that rare occasion when I need to have an argument ready, it is always a sound argument. It is a type of argument whose premises are all true. I’m not a big fan of arguing or debating or anything similar to it. When people argue, I usually just sit there and let it play out. But when that time comes around that I have to throw in my two cents, I like to be sure that I know what it is that I am talking about.
