"Lawyers war over job tax"
Lawyers on both sides of the Jeff. County occupational tax case say they have a right to $17.5 million of job revenue being held in escrow and on Wednesday tok step to gain access to the money. In court filling, lawyer for taxplayers asked a judge to relase the money to them saying "the sums collected are the property, of the planitiff class should be deposited into an account separted and apart from the general fund og the county and under control of class counsel for the plaintiff." Circuit Court Judge David Rains did not rule on the order. Lawyers for Jeffson County, who met much met much of the day Wednesday, contend that a new law passed by the Alabama Legislative could authorize the county to spend the job tax money in escrow.
