Poetry Portfolio: The Weight of Silence
Poem 1: Haiku (Nature’s Whisper)
Whispers in the breeze,
Leaves dance under the pale moon,
Nature keeps secrets.
Poem 2: Free Verse (The Forgotten Voice)
In crowded halls where laughter echoes,
She stands,
a shadow among vibrant colors,
slipping through the cracks
of conversations that never see her.
Her voice,
a soft flutter,
lost in the rush,
like a whisper drowned by the roar of a river,
yearning for a moment to break free.
Each day, she wears her mask—
a smile stitched with threads of hope,
yet inside,
is a storm twisted in silence,
a longing
to be more than a ghost,
to scream her name into the chaos,
to carve her truth into the air
and watch it rise like smoke,
twisting, turning, soaring.
But the world is deaf
to the soft beats of her heart,
they find comfort in the noise,
not knowing that beneath,
there’s a symphony waiting,
waiting for a conductor,
for a chance to resonate,
to be heard—
if only,
if only,
someone would pause,
and listen.
Reflection on the Poems:
In writing this portfolio, I chose to explore themes of nature and the struggle for recognition in a loud world. The haiku captures the simplicity and beauty of nature, emphasizing its quiet strength, while the free verse delves into the complexity of individual experience and the desire to be heard amidst the noise of society. I aimed to convey these emotions through concise imagery and varying structure to reflect the different aspects of silence and voice.
