Think of a goal you have for high school. What are the steps that will help you achieve your goal? You should write 3 ways that you will achieve this goal.
Include research from at least one source.

Step 1: Prewriting

Brainstorm some goals you have for high school:

Academic goal -- What GPA do you want? What classes would you like to take? What career are you preparing for after high school?
Emotional goals -- How will you cope when things get difficult? How will you balance the demands of school with hobbies and/or your social life?
Character goals -- What character trait(s) would you like to develop? Do you have a character trait you need to manage or redirect?

Write your Thesis Statement by following these steps

2. Give your position on the topic

Example: I can improve my experience in high school by managing my anxiety.

3. Add the main steps of your plan

Example: I can improve my experience in high school by keeping my anxiety under control through time management, meditation, and regular exercise.

End with a concluding sentence that reaffirms your opinion and explains why the evidence in your first 2 body paragraph outweighs the counter argument)

Conclusion:

Your conclusion should mirror your introduction. It starts with a restatement of your thesis statement.

Summarize the important points you made.

End by placing the main idea of your essay in a larger context such as by tying it to other works of literature or applying it to real life.

Edit and revise:

Read over your essay. Reading it out loud can help you identify mistakes or awkward spots
Have a friend or learning coach read your essay and make suggestions
Run your essay through spelling and grammar check, but please do not use any resources that "fix" your mistakes or make changes for you.

Your portfolio should:

be 2 pages, double spaced, 11 or 12pt font, in APA format or MLA format -- your choice.
be organized into 5 paragraphs -- an introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion
have a clear thesis, 3 topic sentences that support your thesis, and specific details from your research and experience to support the topic sentences.
