Police, fire, and ambulance dispatchers (PFADs) are also known as 911 operators. Following established guidelines, PFADs rank incoming calls based on levels of urgency. Then, they dispatch the aid to the scene. PFADs pass information to emergency responders. They often remain on the line with callers. This helps them obtain additional information to pass to emergency workers. To do their jobs quickly, PFADs track the locations of emergency responders. They do this by checking charts and computer screens. They also communicate directly with public safety workers.
