Please solve the system with the elimination method. Explain each step as it is performed.
5y = x
2x - 3y = 7
Would the elimination method have been your first choice to solve this problem?

Elimination is a poor choice for this question.
I would definitely use substitution.
sub the 1st into the 2nd
2(5y) - 3y = 7
10y-3y=7
7y=7
y = 1 , then x = 5
compare this with elimination:
5y = x
x - 5y = 0
multiply by 2,
2x - 10y = 0
2x - 3y = 7
subtract them
-7y = -7
y = 1
sub into 1st:
5(1) = x
x = 5
