I assume you know how to diagram adjectives, adverbs, prepositional phrases, subordinate clauses, and so on.
subject: An opening
prepositional phrase (in the trees), modifying "opening"
verb: cheered
adverb: now modifying "cheered"
direct object: him
prep phr modifying "cheered" (with the hopes)
sub clause modifying "hopes" (that the church bridge was at hand)
Now, in that clause, we have
subject: the church bridge (bridge is the noun)
verb: was
adverb prep phr: at hand
there are several very good web sites showing how to diagram sentences, which will show how all these parts fit together.
Please, please, please help me. I am so lost on how to do this :(
I have no idea how to diagram this sentence :(
