Please help me with my statement: For this assignment, please write your own conditional statement in a discussion post. Here is an example of a valid conditional statement:

“If I am working on geometry class, then I am happy.”

After writing your conditional statement (please create your own!), then you can write a converse of the statement. To write a converse, we must flip the hypothesis and conclusion (basically, this means flipping the first and second parts of the sentence). Here is an example of a converse:

“If I am happy, then I am working on geometry class.”

See what I did there? I just flipped the parts of the sentence. 🙂 Once you have written a conditional and its converse, you may submit the discussion post! Now, you must reply to two posts of other students in the class. In each reply, please provide an inverse and a contrapositive of the student’s conditional statement. I’ve written some tips/advice below on how to do this.

Remember, writing an inverse means we must negate the conditional statement (we can do this by placing a “not” in front of both clauses). Here is an example of an inverse statement:

“If I am not working on geometry class, then I am not happy.”

See what I did there? I placed a “not” in front of the hypothesis and conclusion. 🙂 Now, we must write a contrapositive. To write the contrapositive, you can essentially combine the converse and the inverse. This means we must flip the order of the statements and place a “not” in front of both clauses. Here is an example:

“If I am not happy, then I am not working on geometry class.”

Awesome job! 🙂 Once you have written the post and replied to two classmates, then you can submit the discussion. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I will be happy to help!

Sure! Here's a conditional statement with its converse, inverse, and contrapositive:

Conditional Statement:

“If I study for my exams, then I will feel prepared.”

Converse:

“If I feel prepared, then I study for my exams.”

Inverse:

“If I do not study for my exams, then I will not feel prepared.”

Contrapositive:

“If I do not feel prepared, then I do not study for my exams.”

Feel free to use this as your own discussion post! If you have classmates' statements you want to analyze, just share them, and I can help you create the inverse and contrapositive for those as well.
