Invictus
BY WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
How about this for onomatopoeia?
" I have not winced nor cried aloud."

I don't see any onomatopoeia in this, unless one goes to the Greek definition.
For humans, few sounds are used that are not words.
In Robert Brownings poem, Spanish Cloister, the opening is
Grrrrr, there go, my heart's abhorence...
the use of Grrrr is onomatopoeia.
I just don't see it in this poem. "winced" is a grimace, not a sound.

In the two or three days that you've been posting this question, I've seen only one example that you've given. I'm sure you can do better than that. Certainly you can find more than one line out of 16 lines with sensory images. Show us your effort to complete this assignment.

I agree with Writeacher. You haven't shown us your effort.
