Please, help me! I'm struggling to write my persuasive essay that must be completed by tonight. I don't know know whether that which I have written makes sense. I don't know what else to write, either!
My essay is about why high school students should be exempt from taking the FITNESSGRAM (it must consist of three pages).
"Many high school students have been exempted from different kinds of tests. Some honor students are exempted from their final exams, while others’ tests are dismissed when their class simultaneously completes an assignment or project that their test was based on. Students might even be exempted from specific tests due to physical or mental disabilities. Nevertheless, there’s one exam that students commonly are not exempted from: the FITNESSGRAM. Created in 1982 by The Cooper Institute, this fitness test provides an easy way for physical education teachers to report to parents on children's fitness levels. Recently, however, it was announced that students who did not meet the requirements of or pass the FITNESSGRAM must take another two years’ worth of P.E. For high school students who have already earned their Physical Education credits, particularly those of Vineyard Alternative School, this is unfair.
The FITNESSGRAM assesses important aspects of a student’s health related fitness, not skill or agility. These health-related components are aerobic capacity, muscular endurance and strength, flexibility, and body composition. Although this fitness exam is beneficial to assessing a person’s health, it’s futile to high school students who have already taken the required courses of Physical Education. Since they would have already earned their P.E. credits, these high school students should no longer have to worry about mandatory exercise or grades based upon their physical performances. Thus, the FITNESSGRAM is essentially pointless.
The FITNESSGRAM is unfair many high school students. For example, a student passes his fitness class with a decent grade but does not meet the requirements of the FITNESSGRAM. As a result, this male student will be forced to retake additional courses of P.E. He might have wanted to gain experience and take a robotics and auto-engineering class as a free elective. Unfortunately, however, he can’t since his schedule will include Physical Education courses again. "
