Please help me I beg of you! My math teacher is awful and I have no idea how to do my pretest and she's picky about showing my work so it would be helpful if you could explain :)
1.six is subtracted from a number. The result is devided by four. This result is added to 10 to give 30. What is the number? (Sorry if it's really easy I'm just super confused)

the value after each step is shown below.

x
x-6
10+x-6=30
so,
x+4=30
x=26

to do this just work backwards

since your answer will be 30 start with that

the last thing says the result is added to 10 to give you 30 so instead of adding 10 you will subtract 10 from 30

30-10 =20

Next it says the result is divided by 4 so you will multiply by 4

20*4=80

Next it says 6 is subtracted from the number so you will add 6

80+6=86

The answer is 86 if you want to check it just redo the problem in the order given using 86 as the starting number.

86-6=80
80/4=20
20+10=30

Steps:

x = a number

1. Six is subtracted from a number:

x - 6

2. The result is devided by four:

( x - 6 ) / 4

3. This result is added to 10 to give 30:

( x - 6 ) / 4 + 10 = 30

So :

( x - 6 ) / 4 + 10 = 30 Subtact 10 to both sides

( x - 6 ) / 4 + 10 - 10 = 30 - 10

( x - 6 ) / 4 = 20 Multiply both sides by 4

x - 6 = 80 Add 6 to botg sides

x - 6 + 6 = 80 + 6

x = 86

a number 86

Proof:

1. Six is subtracted from a number:

x - 6 = 86 - 6 = 80

2. The result is devided by four:

( x - 6 ) / 4 = 80 / 4 = 20

3. This result is added to 10 to give 30:

( x - 6 ) / 4 + 10 = 20 + 10 = 30
