Two variables were measured: intrinsic motivation and task performance.
Intrinsic motivation was measured two ways, by use of a self-report measure and a behavioral measure. The self-report measure was adapted from the adapted from the Academic Motivation Scale. The behavioral method was a free-choice of the participants during two 10 minute “rest” periods. Participants could either relax, read magazines or work on anagrams. The experimenter rated how much the participants choose anagrams using a 5 point scale.
