Explain how to write a function rule from the table below. Then write a function rule.

x: 2 4 6
y: 1 0 –1

i know its so simple but im having so much trouble!!!:(

well, try a parabola since we have three points

y = a x^2 + b x + c

1 = a (4) + b (2) + c
0 = a (16 ) + b(4) + c
-1 = a(36) + b(6) + c

subtract second from first
1 = -12 a -2 b

subtract third from second
1 = -20 a -2 b

subtract
0 = 8 a
a = 0, this is a straight line
1 = -2 b
b = -1/2

-1 = 6 b + c
-1 = -3 + c
c = 2

so in the end
y = -(1/2) x + 2
