Please help- A small fish is dropped by a pelican that is rising steadily at 0.50 m/s. How far below the pelican is the fish after 2.5 s?

D = d1 + d2
D= 0.5m/s * 2.50s + (9.8/2)m/s^2 *(2.5s)^2
D = 1.25 + 30.6 = 31.9 METERS.

Their distance(30.6) doesn't seem to include the distance the pelican traveled (1.25m) after dropping the fish.
