During fertilization, the male part of a flower, called the anther, produces pollen. The pollen is transferred from the anther to the female part of the same or different flower, called the pistol, either by wind, water, or animal/insect pollinators. The pollen then travels down the pistol and reaches the ovules, where it fertilizes them to initiate the formation of seeds.
