Lesson Title: Introduction to Phonics

Objective: Students will be able to identify and practice using the sounds of vowels and consonants through various phonics activities.
Materials:
- Phonics flashcards with pictures (vowels and consonants)
- Whiteboard and markers
- Phonics worksheets
- Small whiteboards and markers for each student
Procedure:
1. Introduction (5 minutes):
- Greet the students and introduce the topic of phonics.
- Explain that phonics helps us understand how sounds are represented by letters in words.
- Show the students the phonics flashcards with pictures of vowels and consonants.
- Ask students to identify the vowels and consonants on the flashcards.
2. Phonics Sounds Practice (15 minutes):
- Write the vowels (a, e, i, o, u) and consonants on the whiteboard.
- Say each letter out loud and have the students repeat after you.
- Practice making the sounds of each letter together.
- Show pictures on the flashcards and ask students to identify the initial sound of each picture.
3. Phonics Activities (20 minutes):
- Have students work in pairs or small groups.
- Distribute phonics worksheets to each group.
- Instruct students to match pictures with the corresponding initial sound.
- Encourage students to sound out each word and identify the correct letter sound.
4. Phonics Games (10 minutes):
- Play a phonics game with the students using the small whiteboards.
- Call out a word and have the students write the corresponding initial sound on their whiteboards.
- Reward students with stickers for correct answers.
5. Conclusion (5 minutes):
- Review the vowel and consonant sounds with the students.
- Ask students to share something they learned about phonics during the lesson.
- Encourage students to practice phonics at home by sounding out words they encounter.
Assessment:
- Assess students' understanding of phonics by observing their participation in activities and their ability to identify vowel and consonant sounds.
Extension:
- For students who show proficiency in phonics, challenge them with more advanced phonics activities such as blending sounds to form words or identifying digraphs and diphthongs.
