Lesson focus: Tennis Skills and Strategy
Resources: Tennis Court, tennis balls, tennis racquets, cones, markers, and whiteboards.
Lesson Objectives:
1. To teach basic techniques of tennis through proper footwork, body positioning and grip.
2. To explain and demonstrate different tennis strokes such as forehand, backhand, volleys, and serves.
3. To introduce basic tennis strategy such as serving, returning and scoring.
4. To assess the understanding and application of skills and knowledge by engaging students in active play.
Introduction of the lesson:
The teacher will introduce the topic and explain the lesson objectives and expectations. The teacher will also demonstrate how to hold a racquet and other fundamental techniques. The students will be encouraged to ask questions and share their previous experiences with playing tennis.
Body of lesson:
a. Warm-up: Students will warm-up by running or jogging around the court.
b. Technique: The teacher will demonstrate the forehand and backhand strokes, and students will practice together in pairs and groups.
c. Strategy: The teacher will explain the basic objectives of tennis, serving, returning and scoring. Students will practice serving and returning.
d. Play: The students will divide into pairs and play a mini-game. The teacher will observe and provide feedback on technique and strategy.
e. Cool down: Students will perform cool down exercises to reduce muscle stiffness.
Conclusion:
The teacher will summarize the main points of the lesson and encourage students to continue practicing. The importance of proper technique and strategy will be highlighted.
Method of assessment:
The students will be assessed based on their skills, understanding, and application of the techniques and strategies learned in the lesson. The teacher will observe the students’ performances in the mini-game and the application of the techniques. The teacher will also evaluate whether students can explain the basics of tennis and demonstrate the correct techniques.
