One major factor of increased climatic events affecting the highlands region of Papua New Guinea is deforestation, which contributes to landslides and soil erosion. Another major factor affecting the coastal region is rising sea levels, leading to increased flooding and coastal erosion.
To help minimize climate change in Papua New Guinea, it is important to implement sustainable forestry management practices in the highlands region to reduce deforestation and prevent landslides. Additionally, coastal communities should be supported with infrastructure and resources to adapt to rising sea levels, such as constructing sea walls and implementing sustainable coastal development projects. Public education and awareness campaigns can also help to promote environmentally friendly practices and reduce the impact of climate change.
