on a map whose scale is 1:50000 a piece of land is represented by a rectangle measuring 3 cm by 2 cm. What is the actual size of this land in hectares?

2 answers

Sides of the rectangle are 3cm, and 2cm.

The ratio is 1:50000

So, the actual lengths of the sides of the land are as follows:

a) 2 * 50000 = 100000 cm = 1km
b) 3 * 50000 = 150000 cm = 1.5km

So, the area of the land is 1*1.5 = 1.5 square kilometers.

1 square kilometer = 100 hectares
=> 1.5 square kilometers = 150 hectares
