Occasionally, owners may be separated from their luggage while flying. Most often, airlines are able to reunite people with their lost bags. Once in a while, however, bags go unclaimed for more than ninety days. When this happens, the airlines give the bags away. Sometimes, they give them to charities such as the Salvation Army. Other times, they give them to the Scottsboro Unclaimed Baggage Center. There, the items are sorted and put up for sale to the public. Clothes are laundered, the memories of electronic devices are erased, and sporting equipment is cleaned. People may come and buy the items at a fraction of what they would cost new.
