This effectively halts aerobic metabolism, even if oxygen is present in sufficient quantities in the blood.
- Effects: Exposure to cyanide can lead to cellular asphyxiation, causing symptoms such as headache, confusion, shortness of breath, and rapid heart rate. If not treated promptly, cyanide poisoning can lead to seizures, loss of consciousness, and death as cells are unable to produce energy despite the availability of oxygen.
