My niece has this question on her homework.

"Describe two advantages of the SI system over the system of measurement that is still commonly used in the United States."

Does anyone have any thoughts?

The SI system is the metric system. It makes far more sense than our measurements in the U.S. Everything in the SI system is based on units of 10. For example, 1 kilometer = 1,000 meters; 1 meter = 100 centimeters; 1 centimeter = 10 millimeters.

In our system, 1 mile = 5,240 feet; 1 yard = 3 feet; 1 foot = 12 inches; 1 inch is divided into fractions like 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, etc.
