My America is Me

A. Gautam

My America is loud and proud like me

When I close my eyes, in the map I see
Crooked corners and lines as thick as walls
But also rivers that pass through and waterfalls

5 My America stumbles but rises too
It holds my hands and lets me do
The muddy work of lifting my country
My America is beautiful like me

My America is young but also deep
10 My America has promises to keep
The journey is far, the hills are steep
But my America and I will not sleep
