Multi-Step Equations

Systems of Equations

x + y = 0
5x + 2y = -3

this is what i got so far....

x + y = 0 ----> x = 0 - y

5x + 2y(0-y) = -3

please help!!!!

12 answers

you have it right so far
i know but can you please help me do the rest
you take 2 times 0 to get rid of the y, then you have 5x= negative three figure out x or else you are never going to learn. Is this due tomorrow?
yes

you don't have to give me the answer

I just wanted you to write it out so that I can understand and figure out the answer myself.
2x0=0
5x=-3
what is x?
x + y = 0
5x + 2y = -3

y=-x

5x+2(-x)=-3
5x-2x=-3
3x=-3
divide both sides by 3
i got -0.6.... i don't think that's the answer for x...

I'm solving for x and then I have to su solve for y
that is not right what grade are you in bobpursley?
gtg
bobpursley is a teacher on jiskha hw help
5x + 2y(0-y) = -3

don't you minus 2y on both sides (under -y)????
