Who in the world could speak of traditional American Values in 1890? American was a very young country.

Then, the Republican party was a Northern Yankee party, It was pro-business, supporting banks, the gold standard, railroads, and tariffs to protect industrial workers and industry. My guess is today a lot of Republicans would indeed cite these as tradtional values, because they still are for business, against the Federal Reserve, support import tariffs (Buy American Act). However, they are much against protecting industrial workers health, retirement, retirement benefits, and right to strike.

So the question is what is traditional American Values, in the late 1800s?

I believe that traditional American Values include: Right of free assembly, right of due process, right to form organizations, including labour, the right of choosing ones religion, and the right to privacy. A lot of folks would and do disagree with me.
