Monica wants to know what she needs to get on the exam to get a certain grade in her English class. The term Mark is worth 70% of the course and exam is worth 30%. The following is the formula used to calculate her overall Mark.

Course Mark = term Mark + exam mark

C=T/70 +E/30

Rearrange the equation to find her exam Mark (E) out of 30.


I thought that I should divided T/70 by C and E/30

C=T/70 +E/30
C + T/70 = E/30
(70C+T)/70 = E/30
E = 30(70C+T)/70 = 3/7 (70C+T)

or,

E = 30C + 3/7 T
