Messages

Sometimes, I wonder if I am alive, I feel so little. Here are some of the ways I ignore the messages my body is sending me:
Consulting a clock to see if I’ve had enough sleep
Trying to recall how much I have eaten in order to know how hungry I am
Putting on glasses when my eyes hurt, instead of resting them
Using aspirin and antacids
Breathing through my mouth, which has no sense of smell
Putting thick-soled shoes between me and the ground

Passage 2

Everything Spring

She scooped up life like spring flowers,
Feeling the earth with her bare feet.
She breathed in the fragrance and described her experience
With a merry twinkle.
Sometimes a musical laugh.
Nothing escaped her notice,
She felt everything.

1 answer

A. Both are about the five senses.

In the first passage, the focus is on the speaker's disconnection from their senses and the ways they ignore bodily messages, while in the second passage, the emphasis is on a heightened awareness and appreciation of the senses, particularly through the experiences of touch and smell.
