Maple Syrup

Maple syrup is a popular sweet syrup that many people use on foods such as pancakes and waffles. The syrup comes from several types of trees such as red maples, black maples, and sugar maples. It starts out as a sticky sap inside the tree. The sap is taken out and turned into the familiar maple syrup. Most maple syrup is made in the northeastern United States. However, syrup can be made anywhere that the conditions are right for maple trees to grow. Syrup is usually produced in the springtime. But trees can also be tapped in autumn.
The first step in making syrup is to drill a small hole in the trees so that the sap can be taken out. The sap is then collected into a bucket, plastic bag, or plastic tube and sent to a building, called a sugar house, where it is prepared. Next, the sap from the trees is boiled down to remove the water and create pure maple syrup. Finally, the syrup is bottled while it is still warm and then sent to stores or homes.
