Manpower report shows rosier hiring intentions

A Manpower Inc. survey has St. Catharines area employers reporting a "hopeful" hiring climate for the rest of the year.
The latest national Manpower Employment Outlook Survey revealed 23% of employers plan to hire from October to December.
Another 13% anticipate cutbacks and 63% of employers expect to maintain current staffing levels.
Only 1% of surveyed employers are unsure of their hiring intentions in the next quarter.
St. Catharines' net employment outlook is also rosy for the next four months.
At 10%, it's an increase from the same time last year, when employers reported an outlook of -13%.
A net employment outlook is obtained by subtracting planned job losses from planned gains.
Cindi van Rensburg of St. Catharines' Manpower office said the hiring outlook actually took a plunge from last quarter when the local survey, which includes Grimsby, had the second strongest hiring intentions in the country out of 46 places surveyed.
This time around, it slipped to 29th.
"What stands out for me is there was such a spike the last quarter," van Rensburg said. "Everyone was a bit surprised by that."
"That said, we're in a lot better shape now, than this time last year."
