For my Language Arts 6B portfolio, I have chosen to showcase my debate project and provide a reflection on the experience.
Debate Project:
The topic of our debate was whether students should have to wear school uniforms. I was assigned to argue in favor of mandatory school uniforms. I researched various articles, statistics, and opinions to support my argument. I presented my case in a structured and persuasive way, highlighting the benefits of school uniforms such as improving school safety, promoting equality among students, and reducing distractions. During the debate, I also had to respond to counterarguments from the opposing side and defend my position effectively.
Reflection:
Participating in the debate project was a valuable and challenging experience for me. It not only helped me improve my research and public speaking skills, but also taught me the importance of considering different perspectives and being able to defend my own opinions with evidence and reasoning. I learned how to organize my thoughts and arguments in a logical manner, as well as how to actively listen to and respectfully engage with my classmates' viewpoints.
Overall, I found the debate project to be a rewarding and enriching learning opportunity. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to think critically and communicate effectively. I believe that the skills I gained from this project will be beneficial to me in future academic endeavors and in my personal growth. I look forward to engaging in more debates and discussions in the future to continue honing my communication and critical thinking abilities.

For my Language Arts 6B portfolio, I want to talk about the debate project we did in class. We had to argue about whether students should wear school uniforms or not. I was on the side that said students should wear uniforms. I looked up information and facts to support my side. I talked about how uniforms can make schools safer and help everyone feel equal. I also said uniforms can help students focus better in class.
Doing the debate was hard but fun. I had to think about what I wanted to say and how to say it clearly. I had to listen to what others said and respond to their points. I felt good when I could give good reasons for my side and when I could defend my ideas.
I learned a lot from the debate project. It helped me learn how to research and speak in front of people. I also learned how to listen to others and talk about my ideas with respect. I know this will help me in my school work and in life. I want to do more debates in the future to keep getting better at speaking up and thinking critically.
