The restoration of land rights refers to the restitution of the land or a portion of land that was taken away after June 19,1913 due to previous legislation or practices that discriminated against certain races. Over a six-year period, over one million hectares of 86 million hectares of farmland owned by white South Africans were redistributed to black South Africans through land restitution and redistribution. Of the 554 individuals who benefited from the 2020 redistribution program, just 116 were female. In order to advance social justice, equality and peace in South Africa, it is imperative that the issue of unequal land restitution be addressed.
