Label the court of netball

1 answer

In netball, the court is divided into several key areas, each with specific purposes and rules associated with them. Here’s a breakdown of the main sections of a standard netball court:

  1. Center Circle (Circle): The central area where play begins after each goal and is the only place where the center player (C) can start the game and the only area where they can enter after a goal is scored.

  2. Goal Thirds: These are the two areas at either end of the court, where the goalposts are located. Each team's attacking area is the goal third on their side of the court.

  3. Shooting Circle (also known as the Goal Circle): A semi-circular area (with a radius of 4.9 meters) at each end of the court. Only the attacking players from the shooting team can enter this area when attempting to score a goal. Defensive players can only enter this area to defend against the shot.

  4. Goalposts: Positioned at the center of each shooting circle, these are the posts with a hoop through which the ball must pass to score a goal. They are 3.05 meters high.

  5. Penalty Area: Located just outside the shooting circle; if a foul occurs within this area, the opposing team is awarded a penalty shot.

  6. Substitution Box: An area off the court where players can wait to be substituted in and out of the game.

Each of these sections is designed to facilitate the flow of the game while ensuring that players adhere to the rules specific to their positions.
