kamala had 5026 grams of flour in a canister. she bought a 4157 gram bag of flour. she poured some flour from the bag to the canister. as a result, the mass of the flour in the canister is now twice the mass of the flour left in the bag. how much flour is in the bag now?

3 answers

amount poured into canister --- x g
amount in canister = 5026 + x
amount left in bag = 4157-x g

5026+x = 2(4157-x)
5026 + x = 8314 -2x
3x = 3288
x = 1096

amount left in bag = 4157-1096 = 3061 g

The easiest way for grade 4 student in my opinion
Twice in the canister + One left in the bag = 3

So the total should divided by 3 to get the one and the twice
The total = 5026 + 4157 = 9183
The bag = the total divided by 3 = 9183 / 3 = 3061
The Canister = Twice the Bag = 3061 Multiply 2 = 6122
